Welcome to Pangea's Site, v3.0!

What's the Deal?

Pangea 3.0 takes a step back from the direction it was headed in previous versions. Instead of obsessing over memberships and member activity, the "Manager" [now simply renamed "Webmaster"] has decided to scale back and focus the site on its foundations.

Formerly, Pangea was an "open-to-creation" site, where the everyday member was free to request access to build new parts of the site on his/her own. This resulted in extravagant and excessive page creations, including sections like Filthy Forwards, Riddles, Music Pages, and so forth. Content became abundant - too abundant. Pangea tried to cater to all interests, and that just wasn't feasible with the skimpy management provided. An open forum was given, where many-a-time came a complaint about how unstructured the site was. "It should be based on a central theme!" people cried. And so the Webmaster listened.

He eventually decided to freeze all member activity for a year [September 15, 2002 - September 15, 2003] to take some time off and think about the situation. Then he realized that member activity was the root of the problem. He had been pushing for activity far too much, and it had blinded him as to what his real goals were. Thus, he vowed that with the next version of the site, memberships and open forums would take a backseat to his own personal interests.

And here we are today - embarking on a new era in the history of Pangea's Site. Memberships, public input, and forums have been fully separated from the content, and the Webmaster couldn't be more relieved. Managing a community of people was difficult, but now he has less of a duty to do it. He has this site, the members have theirs, and they have been linked into a new creation that comes with the birth of Pangea 3.0: All hail the Pangea Network!
